1.14 sa tu dīrgha kāla nairantarya satkārā ' 'sevito dṛḍhabhūmiḥ

1.13 tatra sthitau yatno 'bhyāsaḥ
Practice is the repeated effort to follow the disciplines which give permanent control of the thought – waves of the mind. 修習是重覆的努力於遵循可以永久控制內心念頭波動的訓練。
1.12 abhyāsa vairāgyābhyāṁ tan nirodhaḥ
They are controlled by means of practice and non-attachment. 藉由修習及不執著,它們(五種念頭波動)可以被控制。
1.11 anubhūta viṣayā 'saṁpramoṣaḥ smṛtiḥ
Memory is when perceived objects are not forgotten, but come back to consciousness. 記憶是過去感知過的對象沒被忘記,並返回到意識層次。
1.10 abhāva pratyayā 'laṁbanā vṛttir nidrā
Sleep is wave of thought about nothingness. 睡覺是念頭波動幾乎無知覺。
1.9 śabda jñānā 'nupātī vastu-śūnyo vikalpaḥ
Verbal delusion arises when words do not correspond to reality. 當語言文字與真實不符合時,語言文字的妄想於是產生。
1.8 viparyayo mithyā-jñānam atad rūpa pratiṣṭhaṁ
Wrong knowledge is knowledge which is false and not based upon the true nature of its object. 錯誤的知識是偽造的以及不以對象的真實本性為基礎的知識。
1.7 pratyakṣā 'numānā ' 'gamāḥ pramāṇāni
The right kinds of knowledge are: direct perception, inference and scriptural testimony.正確的知識是:直接的感知、推論以及經典上的說明。
1.6 pramāṇa viparyaya vikalpa nidrā smṛtayaḥ
These five kinds of thought – waves are: right knowledge, wrong knowledge, verbal delusion, sleep and memory. 這五種念頭波動是:正確的知識、錯誤的知識、語言文字的妄想、睡覺與記憶。
1.5 vṛttayaḥ pañcatayyaḥ kliṣṭā 'kliṣṭāḥ
There are five kinds of thought waves – some painful, others not painful. 念頭波動有五種 – 有些引起痛苦,其它的不痛苦。
